The lights dimmed, the popcorn was served, and the talent was undeniable. Last night, Porterville College hosted its first-ever Film & Animation Festival, transforming the campus into a high-energy movie premiere.

This landmark event wasn't just a showcase; it was a bridge between our campus and the local community, featuring the sophisticated work of PC Digital Video and Animation students alongside rising stars from local high school Multimedia pathways programs.

The festivities kicked off in the SCCR at 4:30 PM, where attendees were treated to a diverse array of animations. From character-driven narratives to technical motion graphics, the student animators demonstrated a high level of digital craftsmanship.

As the evening continued, the crowd moved to the PC Theater for the film screenings. The transition felt like a true Hollywood event, with students, faculty, and community members gathering to celebrate the power of storytelling.

What truly set this festival apart was the integration of live performance. The PC Band filled the evening with the sweeping sounds of iconic movie hits and scores, reminding everyone of the vital role music plays in cinema.

The undisputed highlight of the night was the experimental film showcase. In a daring display of creative synergy, select members of the PC Band accompanied by PC Music Professor Matthew Galinn, provided an on-the-spot improvised musical score for a student created film. This "live-composing" feat brought an electric, unrepeatable energy to the theater, leaving the audience in awe of the musicians’ and filmmakers’ subconscious collaboration.

As the final credits rolled, the evening concluded with awards and special presentations to honor the technical skill and artistic vision of our students. With free popcorn in hand and a sense of community pride in the air, the festival officially closed as a resounding success.

" Filmmaking is a demanding process, and presenting the work publicly allows students to be recognized for that effort. It also invites feedback and reflection, which is essential for their growth as artists. We are proud to showcase their work in the Porterville College Theater, and we are already looking ahead to expanding the festival next year—potentially at a larger venue like the Galaxy Theater—where students can engage with broader audiences and industry perspectives." — Digital Media Program Director Theodore Lyons
